Where is romance headed?
Where is the romance genre headed? With kick butt heroines like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and edgy Navy Seal commanders, where does that leave traditional romance? Do you like the direction of the harder edged woman?
How about the sweet inspirational? These days, historicals are much softer than contemporary romances. Do you like such a large disparity within the romance genre? Where would you like to see the hard edges vs. soft edges?

I like both types! Sometimes, I like to read about a strong woman and other times, a very sweet old-fashioned romantic book. Thanks, Cindi

Love the softer edges...love the historical romances...but I got to admit...as a woman...I truly adore the strong, beautiful, and can't be meet woman...

Personally I think there is room for both the hard edged romance and the softer one. They branch off in different directions and it's simply dependant on an reader's mood as to which path he or she will follow, and for how long. Now me, I travel both paths at once. Maybe I am the odd lady out but I happen to read more then one book at a time and have no trouble switching from a soft, sensual historical to a razor edge paranormal romance.

I agree with April. I prefer the edgier characters. I love reading romantic suspense and paranormals, so it normal for the hero and heroine to be hard. But there are times when I want to change pace and read a sweet romance.

I agree with everyone else, there's definitely room for both, and I'm also bad for reading 2 or even 3 books at the same time in different genres. Never found the switch between character types difficult in any way.

My favorite books are paranormal and historicals so I like both types. And I agree with April, I can read two or three books at a time and don't find it difficult.

I like both types of romance. It depends on my mood what I read.

I tend to go towards the stronger women. But not just the superhero Buffy type, I like to read books about women who have strong minds. I like the ones who know who they are and what they want and won't take anything less. I think because I'm so shy and usually let people walk all over me I pick the heroines stronger because that is something I would like to see in myself.

I think all the directions romance has headed in are great. I mean it gives so much variety and everyone can find something they like. I find mood changes from day-to-day. Some days I like the edgier stories and characters and somedays I love inspirational romance. I don't read historical as much as I use to because there is so much to choose from in the contemporary range.

I love historical romances stories. But I've found that I am enjoying other stories besides the historical ones. Even within those I do like a variety in the characters. It really depends on my mood. I just love a good story!

I enjoy reading both because I like variety. I am a mood reader so it depends on what I am in the mood to read.

I am right there with Cherie J. I like all kinds and it really depends on the mood.

It is so great to get feedback from readers. The publishing world can be so skewed. I oftentimes wonder why there is such a disparity between what I hear from readers and publishers. You guys rock.

I like all kinds of romances, I like the variety. I hope that one type never truly goes away.
