July 26 the romance novel's first kiss

We've talked about the real life first kiss: the nerves, wondering if our lips will be too rigid or too soft, will our noses bump--let's just get the darned thing over with, for crying out loud! Even if all goes well, we have butterflies on approach. That's real life, that's the memory.

But what about that first kiss in a romance novel? Story circumstance color the details, but what, if any, are the bottom line necessities for that kiss to work for you as a reader?

For me, it is the unexpected first kiss! The two have feelings for each other, but
neither one know. Then, the circumstances lead to them being alone and one of them decided to kiss the other. Cindi

I have read alot of books and I love how each story tells of how each couple in the story has their first kiss, they sometimes are afraid to have those feelings then the more they are together the more they want each other the ones I have read are VERY romantic I love how they can go in detail it can make your heart beat fast. thats the way it should be you have that first kiss and you want more you want to keep reading to find out what happens next

There has to be a good connection between the characters to work for me. The way they interconnect or just look at each other is always good.

The first kiss must be an expression of thier desire which can be unexpected

For some reason I like it to be unexpected. No big build up with the heroine angsting will he or won't he.

I like the kiss to be unexpected, but not completely out of the blue. You know, maybe THEY didn't know that it would happen, but you could tell they wanted each other!

I like a buidlup of tension between the two. I want the writer to build the bond between the couple first so that the kiss is essential as a next step in their relationship.

For me, it just totally depends on the personality of the characters as to whether an unexpected kiss is amazing or an uninhibited lip fest!
